Welcome to the jungle

Er, I mean, welcome to the garden.

It was so overgrown when we moved in that it was hard to imagine anything beyond the amazon-esque yard. I couldn't see a garden, per se, so much as a never ending pile of pine needles and detritus. But Easter came, and so did my in-laws, and together we readied the yard for an Easter egg hunt by hacking away at the overgrowth. The result? Well, to you it probably still looks overgrown. But to me, it looks SO MUCH BETTER.

Look! Under fifty tons of pine needles, I found grass plugs. And they are alive!! Never mind that the stupid pine needles have been starving them of daylight. I'm trying to rake up as much as I can in an effort to let the grass plugs fill in. They are pretty hardy if they have survived this far... I want them to go forth and multiply. Make more grass thingies. Spread around. Photosynthesize and prosper. You know?

I planted two pink azaleas in an effort to add more color to the back yard. My dad says they like pine needles (hi dad!) and boy, if there is one thing I do not lack, it is friggin' pine needles. Which means these azaleas are probably going to take over and run this place in a year or two. I want to get a few more in different colors to line the fence we share with our neighbors on ones side... one day, when I have free time, I might get to it.

And since I planted them two weeks ago, they've continued producing blooms, so I assume that means they are staying. Friggin' pine needles - at least they are good for something.

This one waters the lawn. When she isn't tanning on the deck, that is.

Completely gratuitous shot of the roses in all their splendor. Now if only the lilacs would come out to play...

Oooh, now those azaleas are gorgeous! I hope they do spread on out!
