First up: the newborn sized prefolds from Green Mountain Diapers (unbleached, quantity: two dozen).

Next, the fitteds, Kissaluv size 0 from various retailers (most bought used to save some $$, and no, it isn't as gross as it sounds. They came to me in excellent condition and clean, then I sanitized them myself for extra measure). Quantity: eleven.

And the all important covers, because the prefolds and fitteds are not waterproof themselves so you need a cover to go over them (quantity: seven traditional PUL covers, but three are considerably smaller and I don't seem them fitting the entire NB stage. I also have one wool cover, not shown):

And the easy-peasy diapers, the all-in-ones (no cover required, because it is, you guessed it, all-in-one. Quantity: seven, because I found some amazing deals, I probably didn't need all these though. Five Sposoeasy brand and two Bumgenius XS):

So there you go! I envision these fitting anywhere up to 6 weeks (he'll probably outgrow the prefolds first) on up to three months or a tad more (for the Kissaluvs, since they grow with baby thanks to their adjustable snaps). But that could change if he comes out a sumo wrestler baby! At 10 to 12 diapers a day for a newborn, I hope to keep myself sane in the laundry department by having a healthy sized stash and also save his buns from blowouts associated with regular disposable diapers. Only time will tell! I hope the learning curve is short for these but I'm prepared to learn by trial and error. I'm thrilled that we'll never be out of diapers, though, so no late night runs to Target for diapers/wipes (we are doing cloth wipes as well, since it is all the same laundry)! Yessss.
Also, another huge motivator for me was the "save the planet" aspect, because my stomach turns over at the thought of all those diapers in a landfill somewhere for the next five hundred years. But I'm not going to get all preachy-green on ya. That's not my style. I'm giving this a shot and so far, it has been a LOT of fun researching, buying, and prepping.
And you cannot beat the cost savings! From my calculations, this NB sized stash probably cost the same as buying 3 months worth of NB disposable diapers, however I can reuse everything for future babies (cost to diaper Bean Numero Dos: zero dollars) OR sell it all and recoup 2/3 of my investment. Now that is a good deal.

We're planning on CDing too and I'm just starting to build up our stash, so I love seeing what other people have bought! So far we're going to be using fitteds and AIOs - can't talk the husband into prefolds - but even so, as you say, you just can't beat the cost savings (especially since we're having twins!).
I just hope I can keep up with this system. Will I be arrested if I hide a stash of disposables to use when you aren't looking? Just kidding. I agree with the "go green" thing. The whole system just seems intimidating. I used cloth on you but it was just good old Gerber cloth diapers, plastic pants, and baby safety pins.
I think you have a great stash! I'd love to have that stash :) I've got a bunch of those newborn prefolds but only 4 covers, we'll see how it goes. I used the KLOs a bit with Luke and they are nice too. Can't wait to see the fluffy bum!! Nothing like it :-)
i probably would not buy anything from evolution-deniers.

Thank you for posting this! I'm 21 weeks along and am very excited about CD'ing (well, as excited as one can be about diapers :) ) but definitely get overwhelmed by the multitude of choices. It's great to see what other people are doing. I guess you'll be delivering any day now-- best of luck and congratulations in advance! Keep up the good work on the blog, it's a joy to read.
You are a little OCDish, but I love this post. :)
How many snappis did you buy? I keep going back and forth on this -- I want to get dozens, but I think this is because I'm just attracted to the pretty colors and "gadget-like" nature ;o)
Great post!
what soap have you bought for laundering them? that was always the trickiest bit for us so you may find that you're always tweaking the perfect laundry process. finding a soap that doesn't leave bubbles is key, but i still wanted something that was strong enough to do a good wash. i don't know that i ever found the perfect solution and i'm ashamed to say that we took a CD hiatus almost a year ago...and never went back. ::gasp:: i've got them washed and ready for baby #2 though.
We are starting with Planet liquid detergent, with some bac-out on hand to use as needed. Hopefully it works!
I have 3 snappis so far, hopefully I don't lose them all. I'm a little afraid of that!
